Microsoft has announced the launch of Live Search Cashback, where it creates a medium for advertisers to advertise their products at MSN Live search, the advertiser only have to pay if sales  happen after the clicks. From user side of view, the shoppers on MSN Live may get to save money on purchase, as the slogan is Search, Shop, Save.

It may seems to benefits both side, but for me, but who benefits the most? My guess is not advertiser nor customers but Microsoft.

  1. Microsoft encourage users to use msn search for purchase products online, where it increase the web traffics flow to it's search engine. You may want to check the web traffics statistics at www.alexa.com. Compare live.com, google.com and yahoo.com. live.com is only 60% of google or yahoo. That makes me guess what they want from this cashback strategy is web traffics.
  2. Microsoft try to drag the attention of the advertisers, where they provides a risk-free advertising plan to them, and giving cash back to customers. From there, Microsoft has gain more advertisers as well as more web traffics on products search, which consequently increase the market share.

Impacts

Live Search Cashback will be a thread to google adsense as well as other web advertising company, consequently worries webmasters and bloggers who make livings from writing blogs through placing ads. If Pay per sales becomes the trend, their earning will drops exponentially.

By the way, these are only my opinion on the matters, TechCrunch has done a wonderful jobs on Analysis of Microsoft Live Search Cashback

Happy birthday to Wordpress

On May 27th 2008, Wordpress will turn 5 years old. Wordpress is a very famous open source blog publishing system written in PHP developed by Matt Mullenweg. The latest release is 2.5.1 which released on 25 April 2008.
